Evaluation- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

Estelle:  A popular Rnb artist, upcoming in America and established in the U.K. Estelle is seen as an independent strong artist influencing young females. She is a strong figure in the black community and mainly sings about her past experiences and the conventional topic of 'love'.

Our artist: Indiya - Heavily influenced by 'Estelle' and other similar RnB artists. We wanted our artist to share the same conventions 'Indiya' a young upcoming artist is strong in the U.K Industry.
A lot of her profile is based on image, she rely's on her loyal fan base to help boost her popularity.

Other products: Following the conventional image of many RnB artists, when producing my digipack and advert I used a strong clear close up image so the target audience could establish the new artist.
Following a clear strong colour scheme portraying a very girly theme and following the strong image our artist carries so it is recognisable.

Strong influences with images -
A close up image, allows the audience to recognise the artist. As a new artist it is vital to have a close up image with the name of the artist clearly shown so we can establish the artist.

The videos:
What really influenced us whilst watching Estelle's video ?

Following a narrative - directing the video as if it was a journey

Using similar every day, urban locations, city life.

We were heavily influenced by the original video, we enjoyed Estelle's 'performance'

We wanted to show this in our video, following the strong RnB genre and really 'showing off our artist.

  1. Very good so far, Alexandra, I like your comments about your artist's image. You could also begin to discuss the way in which your video uses shots or editing effects that fit with or develop and challenge conventions - for instance, your use of the 360 degree shot, and the closing edit in slow motion are both techniques I've seen before. Are there any other direct borrowings and are there any ways in which you go against technical conventions?
